CRB – Canada recovery benefit
Who can apply?
- Employed and self-employed individuals (Not entitled to EI).
- Not working due to COVID for two weeks or reduction of 50% in average weekly income compared to 2019, 2020 or the last 12 month.
- Need to be a tax resident of Canada (don’t need to be a permanent resident or Citizen). Need SIN.
- 15 years old or over.
- Earned at least $5,000 in 2019,2020 or in previous 12 month before the application date.
Definitions:
Self-employment income is your revenue minus expenses
Income for this program includes – tips, non-eligible dividends, royalties
How much you can get
- $1000 every two weeks ($900 after tax)
Periods one can apply for
- 13 periods Sept 27, 2020 to Sept 25, 2021
Limitations
- You will have to reimburse $0.50 for every dollar of net income you earn above $38,000 on your income tax return for that year (2020 or 2021). Excluding CRB. You will not have to pay back more than your benefit amount for that year.
- You have not quit your jib voluntarily or reduce your hours, you were seeking work, you have not turned down reasonable work.
- Need to be a tax resident of Canada (don’t need to be a permanent resident or Citizen). Need SIN.
- 15 years old or over.
- Earned at least $5,000 in 2019,2020 or in previous 12 month before the application date.
- While receiving benefits under one of the above programs, at the same time is not eligible for : CRB, CRSB, CRCB, short term disability, workers compensation, EI, QPIP.
